Richard Abels founded Abels Communication Company in October, 2003; expanding on a 30-year career in corporate marketing and communications for national corporations and ad agencies.

Prior to forming AbelsComm, Abels was National Director of Communications for AT&T Wireless/Cellular One (McCaw), where his responsibilities included the development and implementation of national corporate communications strategies and programs. Over 15 years, he developed and executed marketing plans, spearheaded product launches, managed nationwide PR, served as corporate spokesperson and provided strategic counsel to C-level executives, while successfully managing executive staff and departmental budgets.

Abels was also the first Marketing/PR Director for Stroh Ranch, a 2500-acre master-planned community in southeast Denver. Additionally, he worked for national advertising agencies in Chicago and Denver; directing multi-faceted campaigns for Pentax, Monsanto Astroturf, Fender Guitars, Hilton Hotels, Highlands Ranch and other clients.

Abels earned a B.S. degree in Marketing from Penn State University and has completed extensive course work in communications, media relations, and crisis management. He has lived in Denver since 1979 and participates on a variety of community/business boards and concerns. He is also the founder and co-creator of the LoDo Music Festival which was held for 13 years in Denver’s historic Lower Downtown neighborhood.
